Law Office of George W. Weaver

NORTH GEORGIA TRIAL LAWYER · EST. 1985

When North Georgia courtrooms decide your future, who walks in with you matters.

For four decades, one name has answered the call across North Georgia when families, professionals, and the wrongfully accused needed a lawyer who knew the courtroom — and the people in it. That name is Weaver.

THE WEAVER LEGACY

Four decades, carved into these courtrooms.

Built on the legacy of George W. Weaver's renowned advocacy in North Georgia, our firm — now carried forward through his son — continues the tradition of being the law firm people never have to search for, because they've already been told to come to us.

George W. Weaver, founder, 1941–2024

GEORGE W. WEAVER · 1941–2024

Founder. Green Beret. First District Attorney of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit. The lawyer who set the standard this firm carries forward.

George W. Weaver was born in Jasper, Georgia on October 31, 1941. He graduated from Pickens County High School in 1959 with perfect attendance across all twelve years — a work ethic his mother Ruby insisted on, and one he carried for the rest of his life.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961. He completed Paratrooper training, Counter-Insurgency School, and Special Forces Medical School, and served as a Green Beret in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1965.

He came home, joined the Atlanta Police Department, and worked his way up — Lottery Squad Detective, Training Division Detective, Sergeant, and instructor at the Atlanta Police Academy. While wearing the badge, he also earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Education from Shorter College.

After the APD, he taught Social Studies at Pickens High School and coached football and tennis. Law school came next — at night, while working full time. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in 1979.

If you walked into your courtroom and saw George Weaver in the audience, you knew it was not going to be a good day.

HOW WE WORK

A process built on preparation, not promises.

The lawyers who win in North Georgia — in criminal, family, and civil court — are the ones who walk in ready. Here is exactly what that looks like for your matter.

  1. 01

    Confidential call

We take the facts in your words — no filter, no staff intermediary. Same day, after hours if needed. Everything you say is protected.

  2. 02

    Strategy meeting

We sit down in person, review the file, and walk you through what the court sees, what opposing counsel is likely to do, and the strongest positions available to you — criminal, family, or civil.

  3. 03

    Courtroom preparation

We prepare every case as though it is going to trial — because that posture is what forces favorable pleas, settlements, and agreements. Motions, discovery, and witness work happen early, not late.

  4. 04

    Resolution

Dismissal, reduction, acquittal, favorable settlement, or a custody and support order you can live with. You are briefed at every decision point. You decide — not us.

QUESTIONS

Common questions, answered.

More on the practice-area pages and in our intake call.

What kinds of cases do you take?

Criminal defense (DUI, felony, drug, violent-crime), family law (divorce, custody, contempt, TPOs), and civil litigation (contract, real estate, personal injury, appeals). We practice across North Georgia. If a matter falls outside these areas, we will tell you honestly and refer you to the right lawyer.

What counties do you practice in?

Our home circuit is the Appalachian Judicial Circuit — Pickens, Gilmer, and Fannin. We also appear regularly in Cherokee, Dawson, Forsyth, Gordon, Hall, Union, Towns, and the surrounding counties. Federal matters are taken on a case-by-case basis.

Do I work directly with the attorney?

Yes. Strategy, courtroom appearances, and the critical decisions are handled directly by George W. Weaver Jr. This is not a referral mill and cases are not handed off to junior staff.

How are fees set?

It depends on the matter. Most criminal cases are flat-fee. Family and civil matters are typically hourly or hybrid, with a defined retainer. Every fee is set in writing before representation begins — no surprises.

Can I pay online?

Yes. Once retained, you can pay invoices through our Clio for Clients portal — securely, from any device. We accept ACH and major cards.

How fast can you respond if my matter is urgent?

Same day. Whether it's a bond hearing after an arrest, an emergency protective order in a family matter, or a TRO in a civil dispute, we accept urgent calls directly and can appear across North Georgia on short notice.

Are the legal templates a substitute for a lawyer?

No. Templates are self-help tools — fill-in-the-blank forms drafted to be usable in typical Georgia situations. They are not a substitute for hiring a lawyer. If your matter is contested, unusual, or high-stakes, retain counsel.
